Experience: Hidden on Bluffton Parkway is a new venue for axe throwing. It may be hard to find at first since it is behind the Off Island Thrift Shop. One can book their experience either online or in person. Before one begins the experience, one must sign a release waiver and then they are led to their throwing lane. Before one starts the experience, one is given a safety briefing and then the fun begins. If one has never thrown axes before, one can receive coaching to help. One is then fitted with the right sized axe and then the hour begins. As one throws axes, one can either play a game with friends or oneself. One can also purchase beverages for an additional cost. Beverage choices include alcoholic and non-alcoholic libations. There is also a key on the menu indicating the number of points one would receive on the target. If one gets a bullseye for the first time, one can ring a bell to mark one’s victory. When one’s hour is up, the staff let one finish their game or throw one last time until one’s axe sticks to the target.
Thoughts: This is a great way to relieve some stress from your workday or just to have a good time with friends and family if they are 14 and older that is. Throwing axes is very much like darts except there are two circles on two spots in the outer ring and are worth a great number of points. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and supervise their patrons very closely, as an axe can bounce right off the target and back to the thrower. However, this is a rare occurrence. The venue consists of ten throwing lanes and TVs are set up above the lanes, so spectators have something else to entertain them. The tables have clipboards with can holders for beverages and clipboards with menus and scorecards. Walk-ins are welcome but it saves time to book your experience online so you will be ready to throw when you get there as the waiver process is quite tedious. In the end, Palmetto Axes is a great place for a night out, a date, or any occasion.
