Beach Passes

• Garbage and Recycling: How do I dispose of my household garbage? How do I recycle in Beaufort County? Where do I get a recycling bin? What Convenience Centers are closest to me? What number should I call if my garbage is not picked up?  All of the above are frequently asked questions by new Beaufort County residents. The answers to these questions will depend first on where you are located within the county. It sounds strange but not all areas of the county have the same services. Find where you live below to determine how your area of the county handles solid waste and recycling.
  • Hilton Head Collections: The Town of Hilton Head does not offer curbside solid waste and recycling collection to residents.  Residents must contract with a private contractor.
  • Bluffton Collections: The Town of Bluffton offers curbside solid waste and recycling collection to residents via a contract with a private contractor. For a roll cart or recycling bin please call the Town of Bluffton at 843-706-4500 or visit https://www.townofbluffton.sc.gov/217/Trash-Recycling-Services
  • Sun City: Waste Management is the only hauler permitted to pick up residential trash in Sun City Hilton Head. Residents must contact them directly to arrange for service, including prices and days of pickup at (843) 987-0701. There are also county landfills available to residents. Please note that Beaufort County residents cannot use a Jasper County landfill and vice versa. If caught using another county’s landfill, residents could face a fine.   • Unincorporated Bluffton Township: Does not have a curbside solid waste and recycling collection program in place. If you are an Unincorporated Bluffton Township resident and wish to have curbside collection contact one of the private waste haulers from the phone book. You may also use the Bluffton and Pritchardville Convenience Centers to drop off your trash and recycling (listed below)
  • Convenience Centers / Drop-off: Below are the locations in Beaufort County where you can drop of your trash and recyclables

  • Pest Control: Unlike many other parts of the country, it is important to treat your property for pests.  There is a number of local pest management professionals that can help you find the best pest control treatment program for your property, usually offered monthly, quarterly and annually.  Areas of treatment include termites, fire ants and common household pests.  By working with a trained professional, you can enjoy pest-free living and the peace of mind that comes with knowing you are protecting your home, and your family.

Vehicles: Registration, Taxes

• • • All new residents of South Carolina have up to 90 days to renew their driver’s licenses and up to 45 days to renew their vehicle registrations. Prior to going to the SCDMV you must pay your ad-valorem taxes on your vehicle(s) before they will let you obtain a SC license plate. You must take your vehicle’s current registration or title to pay your taxes at the Beaufort County Treasurers Office.
