Do you have a living space that is dark and in need of some light but on a tight budget? Here’s a couple of easy fixes that you can do to brighten up any living space.
When you paint a room a darker or warm toned color, the room is going to look smaller. Dark colors absorb the light rather than reflecting it back into the room.
The way you can make a room feel bigger is by simply painting the walls white or very very light color. White walls, white paneling, white floors. Your room will instantly look bigger, brighter, and cleaner.
A messy room will never feel light and spacious. Minimize the amount of items you have out on surfaces. When you have a lot of things sitting about and taking up your usable surfaces, it can make a room feel cluttered and confining. Create space and create smooth, clean lines.
Look into hidden storage systems, like an ottoman with a storage area. Minimize furniture to a handful of necessary pieces, and change up the layout to make the room seem bigger. Look into ottomans with a storage area.
Mirrors are a quick, easy way to open up a space. A larger mirror can create the illusion of space and reflect more light back into the room. Also consider glass-top tables and crystal candle holders, and mirrored trays. All that glitter and reflection will make the room seem brighter.
Keep in mind that you don’t want to completely saturate the whole living space with white. We don’t want the space to seem like a hospital room. Soft and light shades of grey, or pastel accents. Switch out those heavy drapes and blankets for some breezy, airy curtains and light colored throw blankets.
If you want to make a little piece of The Island your own, you need more than just a road map and a REALTOR. You need a partner who can make things happen.
