Breast Cancer Awareness Month Events on Hilton Head Island

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Let’s join together to  increase awareness of the disease. 

• The Bluffton Firefighters Auxiliary will present the fourth annual Lowcountry Rockin’ the Pink Breast Cancer Walk at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 5. The three-mile walk will begin and end at Red Cedar Elementary School in Bluffton. Cost is $25, and proceeds will go to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services for breast cancer treatment and research. • October 1 – 25: The 19th Annual Tanger Pink STYLE Campaign will take place at the Tanger Outlet Center. As part of Tanger’s fundraising efforts, shoppers will be able to purchase Pink Cards for a $1.00 donation each. The Pink Card provides Tanger customers with a 25% discount on a single item at participating stores located at Tanger Outlets Hilton Head. Proceeds from Pink Card sales will be donated to Beaufort Memorial Hospital’s Keyserling Cancer Center and the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Call (866) 665-8679 or visit tangeroutlet.com.
• For a $10 donation, The Hair Designers at Wexford, HHI (843-686-4247), will give you a pink hair extension. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and breast cancer research.
• Hilton Head Hospital Breast Health Center will host a free event from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Beaufort. The center’s medical director, Dr. Virginia Herrmann, will be the keynote speaker. A light continental breakfast will be served. RSVP to 877-582-2737.
• Beaufort Memorial Hospital will offer free clinical breast exams from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at the hospital’s Women’s Imaging Center. Appointments are required. Details: (843) 522-5585 or www.bmhsc.org
• The fourth annual Beaufort Memorial Girls’ Night Out is planned for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at Beaufort Memorial Medical and Administrative Center, located across from the main hospital. The free event will include music, wine, hors d’oeuvres, games and prizes. Register at www.bmhsc.org. Click on the “Girls’ Night Out” banner at the bottom of the page.
• A breast cancer awareness benefit, “Paint the Village Pink!” is set for 12 to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Village Exchange Shopping Center on Hilton Head Island. All proceeds will go to Carolina Cups, a local nonprofit organization that raises money for breast cancer education, screening, treatment and clinical research.
