Oh popcorn ceilings, bless your heart. Your day has come and gone…
Popcorn textured ceilings were very common throughout the 1980s in Hilton Head Island, as this popcorn texture was desired especially in new construction homes. Popcorn ceilings were useful for deadening noise and for it’s cheap cost due to it’s quick application. This thick popcorn texture was an ideal choice among contractors and builders so they could hide imperfections in the drywall (typically) due to framing. Homeowners did not mind when they were saving money, and in this time, the popcorn ceilings were the new trend.
Yesterday’s standard in residential construction is today’s eyesore. Such is life in the world of home design.

“To all the people messaging about the popcorn remover. Its called a Porter Cable Dustless Drywall sander. It takes many hours to learn the skill to operate it. If not experienced you can do more damage than good. Its a nice tool to sand off popcorn if its not rock hard from paint. If it is painted there are other methods that are for a professional. I would estimate the machine captures 90% of dust. After the popcorn is down it is by no means ready for paint. If the ceiling was properly finished before it was sprayed often we can prime it and spray and finish a California knockdown. Much more desirable and appealing. If the ceiling is to be made flat it will need to be skim coated ( as many times as needed to make it flawless flat ). We always protect the walls and floors to make cleanup a snap.”
