Surely you’ve seen those magazine-worthy living rooms full of white fabrics, sheer window treatments, and lots of bright, natural light. They feel dreamy, airy – like you’re living inside of a cloud. If your living space is feeling drab and dark in comparison, check out these 5 tips to lighten up your room and create that light, spacious vibe.
Paint it white. White walls, white paneling, white floors. Two coats of white paint will turn your living space into clean, chic winter wonderland. Your room will instantly look bigger, brighter, and cleaner.
Minimize clutter. A messy room will never feel light and spacious. Declutter surfaces and create smooth, clean lines. Consider adding some hidden storage systems, like an ottoman with stow space. Minimize furniture to a handful of necessary pieces, and change up the layout to make the room seem bigger.
Add mirrors. Mirrors are a quick, easy way to open up a space. In addition to wall mirrors, consider adding mirrored back splashes or mirrored trays. If you’re not into mirrors, consider glass-top tables and crystal candle holders. All that glitter and reflection will make the room seem brighter.
Lighten the linens. Trade out those heavy drapes and blankets for some breezy, airy curtains and snow-white throws. They will make your space seem light, plush, and comfortable – like a cloud!
Add grey or pastel accents. There’s a fine line between looking light and airy and making your living space seem like a bleached hospital room. To avoid too much white, consider adding soft, light shades of gray or blue to your color scheme.
Lightening up your living space is a great way to show off your square footage if you’re preparing your home for sale. White and light colors always make a home seem bigger and brighter.
