2015 Public Art Exhibition
Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The full exhibition, comprised of at least 20 pieces, takes the viewer “Around the Horn,” a nearly mile-long trail on the grounds of Coastal Discovery Museum. With views and access to two boardwalks onto Jarvis Creek and on Calibogue Sound, the path meanders through woodlands, planned gardens, a butterfly shed, beehives, as well as historic and contemporary structures along the edge of the creek. The path is lush and informal and may be picked up at any point and followed to a work of interest, for close examination and contemplation. It is an experience that combines art, nature, and a built environment in a context of discovery-rich culture.
Lowcountry Up Close Exhibit
Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Coastal Discovery Museum will host a new exhibit from December 5 through February 8 in the Hilton Head Regional Healthcare Temporary Exhibit Gallery. The theme of this exhibit is close up views of animals and plants in the Lowcountry. The combination of location and weather make the Lowcountry a place with great diversity in flora and fauna. This exhibit will show the beauty of many small details in nature all around us. The exhibit encompasses either small animals and plants or parts of them that cannot fully be appreciated by the naked eye. Most of the photos featured in the exhibit were taken with the aid of a macro lens, others were taken as close up views with regular lens. The Museum would to express its appreciation to the Camera Club of Hilton Head Island for their assistance with this exhibit.
