2015 Speakers Series "Hilton Head in the Modern Era – Personal Perspectives" Presented by Heritage Library and Coastal Discovery Museum at Coligny Theatre

Marc Frey, a forward-thinking and vocal member of the Hilton Head business community will speak on "Risks and Opportunities in the Next Decade for an Island Community." As a member of the Mayor’s Vision Task Force, Marc has advocated for Hilton Head’s need for a strategic plan to sustain the thriving island community and make Hilton Head a viable location for business. Admission: $30 per person; $45 per couple.

Battle of Pocotaligo Civil War Reenactment
January 24 and 25 • Gates are open 9AM-5PM on the 24th and 25th

Taking place on the 1862 battle site in Point South, this annual living history event is hosted by the Sons of Confederate Veterans Colonel Charles Jones Colcock Camp #2100, the South Carolina Palmetto Battalion and the Lowcountry & Resort Islands Tourism Commission. In addition to the afternoon battles, visitors are welcome to explore a Civil War encampment complete with Sutler Row and period demonstrations, as well as tour a life-size replica of the CSS H.L. Hunley, the first submarine in history to successfully sink an enemy warship.

Gates open at 9 a.m. with battle reenactments at 2 p.m. Daily tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for children; and free for ages 8 and under. Admission into the Frampton Plantation House/Visitor Center & Gift Shop and the Hunley Traveling Exhibit are free. Jubilee of Freedom
Saturday, January 24, 2015 • 1:00PM, Coligny Theatre

Beaufort County Historical Society, Coastal Discovery Museum and the Mitchelville Preservation Project will present "Jubilee of Freedom" commemorating the 152nd Anniversary of the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation. This historical document was originally read in Beaufort on January 1, 1863 and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was presented to Congress on January 31, 1863. Admission is $20 per adult; $10 per student.
